Sebastiaan Jansen knew what he wanted from an early age. At just twelve years old, he left for the boarding school for skippers in Rotterdam, where he followed a training program to become a deckhand. After several years at sea, he completed his studies to become a maritime officer and worked for companies including Amasus. Ultimately, though, he chose inland shipping. \u201cI didn\u2019t want to be away from home for three months at a time. Inland shipping fits my life better.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>

Since 2022, Sebastiaan has been sailing the Dallas<\/em>, a vessel owned by Unibarge. When he came aboard, Bridgescout\u00ae was already installed. And since then, he can\u2019t imagine working without it. \u201cOn German canals, you sometimes have only a few centimeters to spare. That\u2019s when Bridgescout\u00ae really takes the lead. It watches along with you \u2013 literally. If I need to lower the wheelhouse, I can see it immediately. Sure, I still stick my head out the window now and then, but this system just gives you much more certainty.\u201d<\/p>

A tool, not a takeover<\/strong><\/h4>

Sebastiaan is the first to admit he knows what he\u2019s doing. \u201cI\u2019ve never had a collision, and I\u2019d like to keep it that way. I navigate based on experience, knowledge, and instinct. But having an extra set of eyes never hurts.\u201d The great thing about Bridgescout\u00ae? You don\u2019t have to do anything. \u201cYou just glance at the screen, and that says it all. Installation and certification: \u2018Done in half an hour\u2019<\/strong><\/h4>

In his very first week aboard, Sebastiaan was already involved in the system\u2019s annual inspection. \u201cNew sensor, check everything, sign off \u2013 and done. Half an hour of work. But it matters: both for the authorities and for your own peace of mind.\u201d<\/p>

He has now gone through the inspection process twice. \u201cYou notice: when someone knows what they\u2019re doing, it can go quickly. And then you can pass under those bridges with confidence.\u201d<\/p>

Safety as a shared responsibility<\/strong><\/h4>

To Sebastiaan, Bridgescout\u00ae isn\u2019t just another piece of tech \u2013 it\u2019s a logical next step in a sector that\u2019s becoming increasingly professional. \u201cIf you\u2019re not using it, you\u2019re basically falling behind.
