Al sinds 2013 werkt hij in de binnenvaart, na eerder te hebben gevist. \u201cIk heb eigenlijk nog nooit met een broodtrommel naar mijn werk gehoeven,\u201d zegt hij met een knipoog. Sinds drie jaar vaart hij op de MTS Luuk, een schip dat al sinds 2017 is uitgerust met Bridgescout\u00ae. \u201cOp sommige trajecten heb je maar dertig centimeter speling. Dan wil je weten waar je aan toe bent.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><p>Op de Luuk zit het systeem nog in het midden van het schip gemonteerd. Niet ideaal, geeft Wiebe toe: \u201cHij meet altijd de voormast, dus dan krijg je weleens een valse piep. Dan zie je niks, maar blijft het systeem toch waarschuwen.\u201d Toch is hij positief. \u201cNatuurlijk helpt het. Het systeem geeft aan of je er \u00fcberhaupt wel onderdoor kunt of niet.\u201d<\/p><p>Bridgescout\u00ae biedt hem vooral extra zekerheid bij brugpassages. \u201cOp sommige trajecten heb je maar dertig centimeter speling. Dan wil je weten waar je aan toe bent. Het systeem geeft dat netjes aan, ook al vertrouw je uiteindelijk altijd op jezelf.\u201d<\/p><p><strong>Gebruiksvriendelijk en laagdrempelig<\/strong><\/p><p>Het systeem is volgens Wiebe eenvoudig in gebruik: \u201cEr zitten drie knopjes op. Rood is opletten, groen is goed. Dat snapt iedereen.\u201d Ook nieuwe collega\u2019s zijn er snel mee vertrouwd. \u201cJe hoeft er geen computercursus voor gevolgd te hebben. Het wijst zich vanzelf.\u201d<\/p><p>Wiebe voer eerder op de Birjo, waar de Bridgescout\u00ae wel aan de zijkant zit. \u201cDat werkt net wat beter, omdat hij dan niet door de mast geblokkeerd wordt.\u201d Ondanks de minder gunstige positie op de Luuk, ziet hij het systeem nog steeds als waardevol. \u201cBij mist of sneeuw zie je soms dingen die er niet zijn. Het blijft techniek. Het is en blijft een hulpmiddel. Geen vervanging van je eigen ogen, maar wel iets dat fouten kan helpen voorkomen.\u201d Zelf vaart hij met de Luuk op uiteenlopende routes \u2013 van de Rijn tot de Maas en Elbe \u2013 en komt dus regelmatig bruggen met weinig speling tegen. \u201cDan is het fijn om een systeem aan boord te hebben dat meekijkt.\u201d<\/p><p><strong>Over de MTS Luuk<\/strong><\/p><p>De Luuk is onderdeel van de vloot van RT Lloyd uit Werkendam en vaart voor bevrachter ANACO.
